From FSM UNDIP to Academia: The Success Story of Amnan Haris, Environmental Science Lecturer at UNNES

2026

Amnan Haris, S.Si., M.Ling., an alumnus of the Biology Study Program at FSM UNDIP, class of 2014, now serves as an Environmental Science lecturer at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES). Born and raised in a small village in Demak Regency in a modest farming family, he grew up helping his parents in the fields. This life experience nurtured his concern for and interest in environmental issues, especially in the context of agriculture.

His strong motivation to learn brought him to UNDIP’s Faculty of Science and Mathematics through the SNMPTN admission pathway. During his studies, he was active not only academically but also in student organizations, including Madani, Fostibi, Remas Undip, and BEM FSM. He also received two prestigious scholarships, Bidikmisi and Beastudi Etos Dompet Dhuafa, which provided financial support while also shaping his leadership character and social awareness.

After completing his undergraduate degree, Amnan continued to a master’s program in Environmental Science at UNDIP’s Graduate School and graduated in 2021. His interest in agricultural environments continued to grow through research on weeds, organic fertilizer, and the development of Spirulina microalgae as a bioremediation agent for waste.

Not long after completing his master’s degree, he passed the civil servant selection process under the Ministry of Education and Culture and began serving as a lecturer at UNNES. Today, he actively teaches and mentors students while taking part in programs such as PPK Ormawa, PKM, and community service.

“Others do not need to know how hard you work; simply prove that you can. If you fall, rise again. Do not sink into sadness, because it will drain the positive energy in your body,” he told FSM UNDIP students. His journey from the rice fields of Demak to laboratories and lecture rooms shows that with determination, discipline, and parents’ blessings, anyone can inspire others and make a real contribution to the environment and society.
